Claymation is a service mark used for an animation process in which clay figurines are manipulated and filmed to produce an image of lifelike movement. This was seen first techniques of # dimensional cartoon.

What I think that the term means from my understanding when I look at this work  ‘surrealistic Garden of Eden ‘ surrealistic referring to serialism which reminds me of Van Gogh art pieces that reference to a whole new different world and in my opinion the understanding would be Nathalie’s interpretation of the garden of Eden referring to the bible. And the term  ‘ all is natural goes awry’ my understanding of this term is that natural elements goes out of the ordinary and different also something that is not normal and could be unreal.

What I think confronts us through emotions in Nathalie’s works Claymation’s is the thought of serial-ism being in someone’s else’s world or being in a world that is different and out of the ordinary as its mentioned in the title of the works ‘all that is natural goes awry’ also the work in my opinion confronts us with the emotion of fear mixing reality with the unreal also the sexual themes would relate fear, war, violence, sadism and investigation of the darker side of the human soul. 

In relation to what she has done it relates to old animations such as Wallace and grommet using clay as away of 3d shape to make a carton seem more realistic she also uses traditional folk tales.

In My opinion to why designers today have a fascination with taking the theme of innocent and sweet into something disturbing is that the world is changing everyday and by having a new idea of changing it in a way that the viewer will think differently about the emotions of what the work is about for example Micky mouse we think happy carton, very famous and is generally focused on kids but designers change the look of it and make it and becomes more disturbing and grungy we have a different perspective and different feelings towards it this could also relate to post modernism “Re thinking of the new” or development of the new (modern)

In my opinion I think that Nathalie’s work is interesting because it plays with the mind thinking that u are in a surreal world also the videos of her works engage with the viewer as well especially the music though it may seem weird and different it relates to the works. When I look at her work I have different emotions because it confronts us with many thoughts in how we would preserve things example would be Claymation’s, is generally known as an animation or cartoon but when looking at her work it is a different feeling this would refer to hen tai.

I Believe when I look at this grid is that there are many thoughts behind what artist would be thinking paying attention to other artists works also reflecting the work on themselves and things around them using past works symbols etc and incorporating them together This is when the attention to play of surfaces came in and hyper reality was more realistic to reality and was considered normal in society as it grew. For example Ai WeiWei Han Dynasty Urn with Coca-Cola Logo works using a 21^st century logo that is recognised all over the world and has put it on a ancient pot this becomes hyper reality by representing the logo in a different way which would develop the idea of icon.

4. Ai Weiwei is a Chinese artist and political activist, who is also active in architecture, curating, photography, film, and social and cultural criticism. He try to used that playful postmodernist to convey the message of how traditional Chinese culture could be blend smoothly in different colorful contrast with the media western culture, which also keeping with the postmodern theme if pop art culture over the high culture. It is actually a normal traditional old urn, but it caught audience attention because of the red colorful bold text ‘coca cola’ makes the urn looks more interesting and convincing. He is expressing his own media perspective, which a lot of postmodern art tends to do. Postmodernist artist by contrast, always seem to be trying to express what they think about society in deep, meaningful, abstract and masterfully.  

Aiweiwei is an artist based in china he is also a political activist he is also a very well known post modernism artist as he is involved in architecture, curating, photography, film, and social and cultural criticism. In most of his works he uses western culture influences and his own culture to reflect in his works this would be the idea of using intersexuality which refers another txt by quoting from it or by alluding to it? A good example of this is shown in the wok he made with the urn.

 

 

Bansky is a well known artist in the UK for his graffiti and stencil works he shows post modern works through his idea of making something that can be done with no restrictions. In his works he describes the theme of vandalism and war, politics, government oppression and environmental issues   in particular his work flower riot is my favourite because it balances the theme of war and beauty or the good and bad it conflicts the idea of what he is trying to portray.

In his collections the, “Afterwords”2000 and “Burka” 1996 these works are very talked and debated about especially in the collection “Burka” in particular this collection talks about cultural differences and meanings and how we think and see each culture and also stereotype for example in the collection is stereotype of the Muslim women in a burka talking about how we see and persevere them. As I was looking at his other collection “afterword’s” collection I was also thinking about post world war II and the depression era comparing the style and form of the garments was very similar, from what I learnt from the show it is a very conservative style and not much skin is shown also the colour pallet of the collection was very morbid and dull hence the reference to the post world war II era, I also learnt that the collection is referenced to the 50’s look  I feel that these collections are both art and Fashion as they try into each other but in the designers own way, though not all garments would be able to be worn as every day wear.

I would still consider this art in its own form chalayan has developed an experience of the senses in these works using different materials as well as playing with scent, touch and sound. These elements in comparison to Husseins other works are very similar as Husseins garments are very instillation like so creating a instillation isn’t different to doing different creations. I feel that it’s still art in its own concept as specially the design of the vodka bottle in itself it still a massed produced product but using a artistic look to the packaging gives the brand a new look (being different to other brands) many companies are now hiring artists and designers to design their packaging and design products that will elevate their sales but still call it art. With the video of the absence presences the movements I see is world war II comparing the cloths she is wearing is very similar to the people in that war (uniform) inspirations in my view I feel are world war two and the influence of prisoners.

 

In my opinion it’s not important if the art is made by someone else the key word in my opinion would be “Made” it’s MADE by someone else not designed for example major fashion labels many of them have sewer’s and pattern makes though they are making the garments they are not Designing it. My opinion it’s the concept and the design of the garment that is important and not so much the making though to a level of the designer’s standards this also makes garments or art works faster to produce.

What and when was the industrial revolution?

The industrial revolution was around the 1800's this period was the rise of machinery to manufacturing. Its beginnings were in the remote times of the past and are still continuing in some places today. Industrialism started in Western Europe and started rapidly and was a big part of the Britain’s history. As England was the head start of industrialism other areas of the world also followed.

The subject matter of the painting is of a black dog like figure. The dog seems to be blurred especially his head legs and tail.  The subject matter portrays and shows alternative of human limbs hence the hand figure towards the top of the painting.  The style of the drawing is very fluid and rough using smudges and blending. The colour palette of the painting is very dark using shades of grey and black this could be related to industrialism smoke like shades and movement.

  

RMB City (2007-9) Cao Fei

The main subject matter of this painting is the island which seems to be like a city of machinery and working technology this piece is a collage of different shapes and machines and symbols of china. This painting has a sense of surrealism abstract feel about it in relation to industrialism this is Cao’s Fei own interpretation of that period and was clearly inspired from it and how it reflects on china. The colour of the painting is colorful it also has a political theme to it as there is a Chinese flag flouting on top the city/island. This painting is also based on the recent rapid speed of industrialism in china. Symbols that she has used in this art work are symbols of Chinas past and present. Her work is done using digital media and is a virtual world. Also in this piece its described from the recent urban revolution that has expanded china and the rise of western culture influencing in china

Utopia is specific to a place or area. And ideally it’s a word that describes a perfect place. In relation to the painting it is an island that inhabits machinery, tall buildings, technology or described as the best place to be. Cao’s Fei interprets many things of china that is considered a perfect place to be in the life of china. These to works are not similar in anyway though but share the same meaning of industrialism

Claude Monet's 'Water Lillies' (1920) and Chuck Closes' 'Maggie' (1998

Intentions of artists

Claude Monet “water lilies”

>With Claude Monet’s water lily paintings his intentions where to portray the essence    of romance through his works through gestural techniques more expressive rather then detailed and sharp also the colour pallet and the reflections in the water. Monet also explored the effects of light in different times of the day and seasons. For example in this painting below you notice that its tonal light stretches from dark to light.

Chuck Closes “Maggie”

>Chuck Closes intentions of his paintings focus on portraits of him self and his family. Chuck is also known as a modern artist as you can see below in this painting below (Maggie) the image has been painted with a different technique he begins with a photograph of a face and then using a complex grid based reconstruction of the image and then repainting the image in a abstract format.

With techniques of each artist are very different and very similar to each other. With Claude Monet’s painting “water lily” he has used gestural expressive brush strokes using oil paints this gives the paintings more depth and tonal value. This technique that Claude has used has been used a lot throughout his works. In comparison to Chuck closes his paintings are very abstract looking using orbs and shapes as I explained before Chuck uses a complicated grid reconstruction of an image and paints in them creating an abstract image.

Differences between Chuck Close and Claude Monet is the techniques they have used through there works Close makes work that is about modern art as quoted compared to Monet which is more traditional art and more gestural. Claude Monet focuses on scenery as compared to Close he uses portraits of people. Close also uses more modern techniques using photographic images and reconstructing them. Similarities’ of these paintings would be the colour pallet using bright colours also the scale is similar both are big works. The gestural feel of both paintings feel and the same when looking at both of them.

In my response to both Claude Monet and Chuck close’s works I think are very detailed and both have a modern taste. With Claude Monet’s painting I feel that it shows a lot of emotion through the brush strokes in comparison to Chuck Closes work I feel that it is a modern abstract take on portraits also the bright colour pallet I feel makes the painting more interesting.
