1. Mueck's sculpture is described as 'hyper-real'. Define the meaning of this term and apply it to his work.
- Hyper real or hyperrealism is defined as characterized by particularly realistic graphic presentation. In terms of Mueck's work, it describes as being very "Real" or "Realistic" and also his focus is on birth, life and death but on emotional states such as isolation and tenderness.
in working with the scale of the figure which is not life size, and mention 2 works which use. scale that is either larger or smaller than life.
- This is a photograph of muek's works called "A Girl" is a perfect example of how Mueck is playing around with a larger scale rather then a realistic scale and are the key to the experience of each work. Most of Ron Mueck's are larger scales such as the "A Girl" and also another example is called "Mark II" which is a large over sized head (mans head) on his side sleeping. I fell that the reason for the larger scale sculptures is to show detail to his works, see more detail rather then looking at a smaller scale model, in this case would be realistic size. But the larger scale sculptures show more detail that wouldnt been able to bee seen if it was smaller. depicting details of wrinkles and fleshy colours on the skin etc. .
3. Define Renaissance Humanism , and analyze the term in order to apply it to an example of Mueck's work. Note that the contemporary definition of Humanism is much broader than the Renaissance definition.
- Humanism was the beginning of the Renaissance. It is considered to be focused on human beings rather than the church, deciding on ther own morals and truths and was heading towards the study of greek and roman studies. And also the study of poetry, grammar and histories. In realation to Mueck's works using 'A Girl' as an example Renaissance humanism is shown buy the subject matter of the baby rather then realations to the church also scale plays big part of the sculpture. Mueck is depicting the use of human life, birth and death focusing on the human being (humanism)
